The vineyards are considered Zone 3, the hottest zone in the region. Temperatures often reach 110° F during the day but dip to a cool 50° F at night, producing ripe fruit with firm acidity. The 540 acres of vineyards face south witha two percent downhill slope; soil is shallow and rocky with excellent drainage.
The name “Desert Wind” refers to the climate in eastern Washington where the vineyard is planted.
The brand was released to the public in 2001; the winery opened in February 2007.
All wines are produced using estate fruit from the Desert Wind and Sacagawea vineyards on the Wahluk slope in Washington’s Columbia Valley.
