The most respected Burgundy negociant in the Cote d’Or, small and passionate Domaines that produce mind blowing pinot noir and chardonnay, every wine presented limited, allocated and collectible! Should we commission the Townsend hotel Ballroom or the Veranda at Tre Monti? Money is no object!
Nah, lets do it on the tiny patio at The Sugar House overlooking 1-75. They don’t have wineglasses and we can fit about 15 people out there. Our first guest was the owner of this craft cocktail heaven as well as some other excellent restaurants in the downtown area. Dave stayed to the end and managed to get through all 34 wines. His sommelier Christian did the same, absolute pros. Joseph from Roast rode his long board and ended up cleaning us out of all the Millot Bourgogne 2011.
Everything needed ice because the day was perfect on the patio. Sun melts ice and warms wine though so our wine temperature maintenance needed to be precise. Putnam Weekly showed up and was engaging and friendly. The ladies at the helm of the Detroit Athletic Club wine team were present and dressed down still managed to be the best dressed attendees, you can tell Mr. Glisky did not like relinquishing his title but understood that he cannot be crowned “best dressed” at every Woodberry Wine trade show.
Mudgies, Antietum, Red Wagon, Wright & Co., Cliff Bells, and many more made a pass through possibly the most cerebral showing of Burgundy this side of the Mississippi. Detroit is alive and it is only a matter of time when we will need a bigger space.
